Prof. Jungpil Shin

Biography:  

Professor Jungpil Shin is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Aizu, Japan, and Chair of the Graduate Department of Information Technologies and Project Management. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Communication Engineering from Kyushu University, Japan, in 1999 and has been with the University of Aizu since then. His research focuses on artificial intelligence, machine learning, pattern recognition, image processing, computer vision, human-computer interaction, handwriting analysis, human activity recognition, and AI-based healthcare applications. A major direction of his recent work is the automatic recognition and clinical evaluation of neurological movement disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, using handwriting, in-air motion, imaging, physiological signals, and multimodal learning. He has also contributed to non-touch interfaces, gesture recognition, user authentication, medical image analysis, and intelligent sensing systems. Professor Shin is an IEEE Senior Member and an IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Contributor. He serves on the Editorial Board of Scientific Reports and has extensive experience as an editor, reviewer, conference chair, and international research collaborator. He has authored or co-authored more than 560 scholarly publications and has supervised numerous graduate students and international research projects. His current research aims to develop reliable, interpretable, and human-centered AI systems that integrate visual, behavioral, and biomedical information for real-world decision support, healthcare, and intelligent interaction.

Title: AI-Driven Human-Centered Intelligent Systems: From Computer Vision to Healthcare Applications

Abstract: 

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the way humans interact with digital systems, enabling intelligent technologies to perceive, understand, and respond to complex human behaviors and real-world environments. In particular, advances in computer vision, machine learning, deep learning, and multimodal sensing have created new opportunities for developing human-centered intelligent systems that can support more natural interaction, personalized services, and data-driven decision-making.

This keynote presents recent research and developments in AI-driven human-centered intelligent systems, with a particular focus on computer vision, human-computer interaction, and healthcare applications. The first part of the talk introduces intelligent visual sensing and recognition technologies for understanding human activities, gestures, movements, and behavioral patterns. These technologies provide important foundations for touchless interfaces, natural user interaction, activity recognition, and intelligent assistance systems.

The second part focuses on the integration of visual information with multimodal sensing and machine learning. By combining image, motion, handwriting, physiological, and behavioral information, intelligent systems can achieve a more comprehensive understanding of human states and activities. Such multimodal approaches are particularly important in real-world environments, where a single sensing modality may be affected by noise, individual differences, or environmental conditions. Recent developments in deep neural networks, transformer-based architectures, and adaptive feature-fusion techniques further enhance the robustness and generalization capability of these systems.

The keynote will then introduce applications of these technologies in healthcare, particularly for the recognition and evaluation of neurological and movement-related disorders. Examples include AI-based analysis of handwriting, hand gestures, human movement, medical imaging, and physiological signals. These approaches demonstrate how computer vision and machine learning can provide objective and quantitative information that may complement conventional clinical assessment and support screening, monitoring, and decision-making.

Beyond individual applications, the talk will discuss the broader concept of human-centered AI. Future intelligent systems should not only achieve high predictive accuracy but also consider usability, reliability, interpretability, privacy, and the diversity of individual users. The convergence of computer vision, multimodal sensing, generative AI, and intelligent information systems is expected to enable more adaptive and personalized digital services across healthcare, education, smart environments, and other application domains.

Finally, this keynote will highlight current challenges and future research directions toward trustworthy, explainable, and human-centered intelligent systems. By integrating AI technologies with a deeper understanding of human behavior and needs, such systems can contribute to the next generation of digital transformation and provide more effective, accessible, and socially meaningful intelligent services.

Biography: Dr. Mazlina is a distinguished Professor at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), Malaysia, with over two decades of experience in academia. She earned her PhD in Computer Science from the University of Nottingham, UK. Dr. Mazlina holds various administrative responsibilities, including serving as Deputy Dean of Research and Graduate Studies and Head of the Software Engineering Research Group. Currently, she serves as the Director Data Management and Analitics Centre, Editor-in-chief for the International Journal of Software Engineering and Computer Systems (IJSECS) and Head of the Green Technology Research Lab. Additionally, she is recognized as an IEEE Senior Member and Professional Technologist by the Malaysia Board of Technologies. Dr. Mazlina obtained a Professional Certificate from the Malaysia Software Testing Board and is a Certified Green Data Centre Professional.

Dr. Mazlina has made significant contributions to UMPSA and is a member of the academic program committees at UMPSA and other universities, thanks to her extensive experience in postgraduate and undergraduate management. She is the founder of the International Journal of Software Engineering and Computer Systems (IJSECS), the International Competition and Exhibition on Computing Innovation (ICECinno), and the Green Technology Research Lab. Her research work primarily focuses on Green Technology Operations using Simulation Modeling. With more than 200 publications and numerous awards, Dr. Mazlina's excellence in academics and research is recognized both locally and internationally.

Title: From IoT to Green IoT: Overcoming Environmental Challenges with Simulation

Abstract: The rapid growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) has enabled smart cities and intelligent systems but has also raised serious environmental concerns, including high energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, resource depletion, and electronic waste. Green Internet of Things (Green IoT) addresses these challenges by embedding sustainability principles into the design, operation, and lifecycle management of IoT systems. This keynote highlights the transition from conventional IoT to Green IoT and emphasises the role of simulation as a key enabler of sustainable IoT solutions. Simulation provides a virtual environment to model, predict, and optimise energy usage, resource efficiency, and system performance under different scenarios, reducing reliance on costly real-world experimentation. Selected case studies in smart energy management, water distribution optimisation, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and air pollution control demonstrate how simulation-driven Green IoT applications can significantly reduce environmental impact. The presentation also discusses current challenges and future directions, including the integration of artificial intelligence with simulation and the need for holistic IoT lifecycle sustainability. Overall, the keynote underscores the importance of simulation-enabled Green IoT in supporting environmentally responsible and resource-efficient smart systems.

Prof. Ravinder Rena

Biography:  Professor, Dr Ravinder Rena is a profound academician and distinguished scholar in economics, writer, editor, adviser, motivational speaker, a respected global academic voice, and public intellectual with over 33 years of teaching and research experience in Asia-Pacific, Africa, and European continents. He has been an independent consultant and training expert. Prof Rena is currently working as a Professor of Economics, at Faculty of Management Sciences, Durban University of Technology (DUT), Durban, Republic of South Africa. He serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Entrepreneurship and Business Management, Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), Cape Town, South Africa. He also serves as a Visiting Professor at the Academy of Engineering and Management, People’s Friendship (RUDN) University, Moscow, Russia and also serves as a Visiting Professor at the Department of World Economy, Faculty of Economics, Saint Petersburg State University, Russia. Further, he also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Economics at Monarch Business School (Monarch University, Hagendorn, Zug), Switzerland and Further, he works as a Visiting Professor for many Indonesian, Malaysian and Indian Universities notably Manipal University, Jaipur; the Sri Sri University, Cuttack; and a Distinguished Professor at the Sparsh Global Business School, New Delhi. 

He is the Founder and Managing Director of Rebuild, Reform, Research Foundation (RRRF).Besides, Prof Rena serves as the Honorary Country Director – South Africa for the International Internship University (IIU) and Igniting Dreams of Young Minds (IDYM) Global University, India. He acts as President – South Africa for the Yes You Can International (YCCI), UK. He also serves as the Global President – Economic Affairs, of the All India Sustainable Development Council (AISDC). Previously, he worked as a Professor of Economics and Internationalization Project Leader at the NWU Business School, North-West University, South Africa. University, Warangal, India. He has bagged many awards and prizes, to name a few he obtained Ekalavya Award-2023 by the by the International Council for Education, Research and Training (ICERT), New Delhi India. He received the Olympus International Award (OIASA) -2023 for Human Empowerment. He also received the prestigious Best Researcher Award from the Durban University of Technology in 2022 and in 2023 with a Gold medal. He also got the Best 2Researcher 2011 from amibia University of Science and Technology and is also the recipient of the esteemed Award -Man of the Year 2012 which was bestowed upon him by the American Biographic Institute (ABI), USA. Prof Rena has won several national and international awards and accolades throughout his career. Based on his extraordinary research contributions, the American Historical Society, USA has enlisted his profile in the World Who is Who International. He serves as the Chairman of the Panel of Judges for Economics of the Global Undergraduate (UA) Award based in Dublin, Ireland, United Kingdom. He wrote and/or edited more than 10 books and published more than 190 articles in reputed National and International peer-reviewed Journals and 75 book chapters to his credit. Besides, he has published more than 150 articles in Newspapers Magazines, and Websites and presented over 70 papers at national and international conferences and seminars.
